Social Media is Dead

Social Media is Dead

Social media is dead….

Yes, that’s right, first it was Twitter, then quickly followed by Bebo and Myspace and now the final curtain call for the Friendster social media platform, all Social media as we knew it, is gone.

It is the year 2020 when social marketing was wiped out

Akin to the mystery which continues to surround the disappearance of the dinosaurs and as referenced by Nostradamus, social media marketing is finally dead. Nobody really knows or understands what happened, perhaps it was the over dependence upon the systems to lead our everyday lives, or perhaps it was the governments intervention which finally placed the proverbial nail in the coffin.

OK – Enough is Enough, Social Media is far from dead!

Could you image a world without social media in it?

No, I didn’t think so. The whole social media platform has become a beast so powerful that as we have seen in recent months it is now able to help bring down governments by giving the people a means to communicate with each other instantly like no other medium has to date.

The events in Tunisia, Japan and elsewhere in the world all were communicated at an incredible pace by social media mechanisms it is no wonder therefore that businesses are beginning to embrace fully the power and leverage of the social platforms.

Social Media Advertising

I even have noticed in recent months the propensity of leading players in the advertising space whom would not hesitate to spend millions of dollars on a single commercial, to utilise their Facebook page rather than promote their own website on screen. Now that is something else when advertisers will market their product whilst avoiding referencing their own website in order to promote their wares on Facebook!

For business it clearly shows what marketing power can be leveraged from the social media platforms. The question is, if you are a business large or small are you taking advantage of this medium? The fact is that many businesses are not. Creating a Facebook page for your business as well as opening an account on Twitter is pretty seamless. The work comes in maintaining and promoting your account.

Social Media now plays a significant part in the search engines ranking algorithms. Brand references along with other social media flags all help to further your search positions on the net. This ties in nicely with the whole brand recognition issue and can be a very effective method of getting your products and services known and recognised by customers in cyberspace.
